Challenge

As the first employee and sole designer at heyday, I faced the exciting challenge of building the visual identity and designing the entire web app from scratch. The mission was clear: transform a complex ecosystem of personalized perks and benefits into a seamless, intuitive platform that employees would love. Simplifying the user experience was at the heart of this project, ensuring that every interaction felt effortless and empowering. From defining the bold brand identity to crafting a user-friendly interface, I single-handedly designed a product that redefines employee satisfaction and sets heyday apart in the industry.

My role

Designing the heyday app from scratch was a collaborative and iterative process, working closely with the founders, software engineers, and our users to bring the vision to life. Together, we aligned on the mission to simplify the perks and benefits experience, translating it into a product that feels effortless for employees.

I led the design process, from wireframing and prototyping to crafting the final interface, ensuring the user journey was seamless and engaging at every step. Throughout development, we maintained constant communication with users, gathering their feedback to identify pain points and opportunities for improvement. This user-centered approach, combined with regular collaboration with the engineering team, allowed us to refine interactions and implement solutions efficiently while aligning the design with the company’s bold vision.

Takeaway

Despite creating a product that truly resonated with users and addressed a significant gap in employee satisfaction, heyday ultimately faced challenges beyond our control. The market proved to be more volatile than anticipated, with shifting economic conditions making it difficult to sustain and scale the business. While the company had to shut down, the experience was invaluable, showcasing the power of thoughtful design, collaborative teamwork, and user-focused innovation. It’s a reminder that even great products can face insurmountable market forces, but the lessons learned continue to shape future endeavors.
